welcome

“He who knows what sweets and virtues are in the ground, the waters, the plants, the heavens, and how to come at these enchantments, is the rich and royal man.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I’ve always liked to write, to observe, to introspect. This blog is a collection of notes, photos, and memories focused on nature and the extraordinariness and sacredness of everyday life, from my time living in the mountains of western North Carolina to my present home in Raleigh. I don’t have much money, it’s true, but I’m rich, indeed.

I loved the side yard at my old place up in the mountains with its shed (serving as a potting shed, equipment storage, book shelves, and home to a little blue lizard and an occasional spider or two), the big beautiful purple rhododendron, lots of greenery and trees, yellow forsythia and pink japonicas; colorful Adirondack chairs set up around a fire pit. You could see the stars and the moon and gorgeous sunsets from my hill. It was a pretty place, and private, kind of like my own camping spot year-round. Sometimes I still really miss it. I don’t know what changes the new owners have made to the property, and really I don’t want to know. I’d rather just have the memories of my life there over many years, happy and sad, along with all the people and critters who shared the journey. No need to disturb those.
